Baby-Led Weaning

1 MONTH OF BLW!

We started Baby Led Weaning on July 14, 2010, when Madeleine turned 6 months. Matt and I were very excited to start sharing the world of food with our precious little girl.

Since then, she's put a lot of things in her mouth, and we love eating together as a family.

New foods:
Fruits: watermelon, cantaloupe, peaches, apple, lemon
Veggies: squash, zucchini (her very first food!), green pepper, onion, cucumber, carrot (a favorite)
Grains: pasta (farfalle and lasagna), toast, cheese toast, oatmeal, pancakes, breadsticks with cheese
Dairy: yogurt, cheddar cheese
Meat: pot roast, Chick-fil-A Chargrilled Chicken, scrambled eggs with cheese

Her first meal was Pasta Primavera, and she had a great time eating—or rather, playing! It was a little anti-climactic, though I'm not sure what we were expecting. The first thing she put in her mouth was zucchini. The look she gave Matt was priceless! She was not quite sure what to make of it, but she hasn't hesitated to try it again and again.

We've eaten out with Madeleine at Chick-fil-A (grilled chicken only for baby!), Ruby Tuesday, & Marietta Pizza Company.

At home, she's had lasagna (both white and red), pot roast with carrots, onions and potatoes, grilled chicken with roasted vegetables, and all kinds of other baby-friendly meals.

At first, we didn't take many pics of her meals because we aren't supposed to make a big deal out of what she does (according to the book). But then I decided that she's always got a camera in her face, so having that at mealtimes wouldn't be any different than normal. :)

WARNING: PICTURE HEAVY!

To start eating, a baby needs certain supplies.

At her first meal, Madeleine looked to her daddy to make sure she was doing it right. She still does this a lot.

For breakfast, Madeleine loves oatmeal.

Her favorite snacks are fruit, cheese, cucumber and yogurt.

Dinner of lasagna, roast and carrots, and chicken is yummy

Madeleine can't drink out of a cup by herself yet, so she practices in the bath tub. Don't worry, that's clean water!

Sometimes, food tastes better with both hands

And sometimes, you need one in each hand!

Mmm, fingers!

Of course it's quite a mess

but we wouldn't have it any other way!

It's hard to imagine with all that mess that any of that food gets into her tummy, but we've seen the proof!

Madeleine loves eating with her parents, and we sure love eating with her.
